Clove and Basil: Dynamic Duo for Back to School

If you think Clove is only good for your favorite fall recipes and  Basil is just for pesto, then read on!  These 2 amazing essential oils have uses that go way beyond the kitchen in ways you may not think about?!

The smell of clove has always been one of my favorite Autumn aromas!  Mixed with a little cinnamon and ginger, my favorite pumpkin spice comes to mind and I LOVE everything pumpkin (that's for another day though!).  But did you know, clove is very effective at repelling lice and a recent study proves this is your go-to if you ever have any of the little critters hanging around you and your loved ones!  The article with links to the study can be found here:  https://www.doterra.com/US/en/blog/science-research-news-lice-repelled-clove-oil   Evidently it is the eugenol and beta-caryophyllene found naturally in clove which works so well to repel lice.   With school back in full swing, it may be a good idea to keep a bottle of clove handy.  I like to mix 3 drops clove with 3 drops melaleuca in an 8 oz spray bottle of water.   Spritz this mixture over areas of concern.  Or if you are in a hurry and don't have time to make the spray, just add a drop of clove to your shampoo and wash your hair like you normally would!

Another oil to keep on hand now that school is back in full swing is Basil.  Basil essential oil has a warm, spicy, and herbal aroma that is known to reduce anxious feelings. One amazing thing about Basil essential oil is that it provides great benefits for both mind and body due to its high linalool content. I love to apply Basil to my temples and the back of my neck.  As the kids are getting back to a routine, it’s important to help them stay focused while doing their school work.  Diffuse dōTERRA Basil essential oil in your child’s study area to promote a sense of focus for studying, reading, or completing other tasks that require mental clarity. The aroma from diffusing Basil creates a perfect stress-relieving experience.

Not only can Basil be used to promote focus and alertness, but it can also add a little extra flavor to your cooking. The spicy, yet herbal taste of Basil adds the perfect flavor for meats, pastas, and entrée dishes.   Love pizza? Check out this fun and easy recipe for homemade pizza using dōTERRA’s basil essential oil. What a great after school snack!  Make the sauce up ahead of time and store in the refrigerator then use with your favorite crust and toppings:  https://www.doterra.com/US/en/blog/recipe-homemade-pizza
